Parungpanjang, 08 Mei 2023 -- Hari ini adalah hari yang spesial khususnya untuk anggota ekskul PMR WIRA MAN 5 Bogor binaan Nunung Nuraeni yang juga guru Bahasa Indonesia, karena setiap tanggal 8 Mei adalah hari palang merah Internasional. Untuk itu Kepala madrasah, Ema Rachmawati dan segenap keluarga besar MAN 5 Bogor mengucapkan Selamat Hari Palang Merah Sedunia/Palang Merah Internasional Tahun 2023. Semoga jadi inspirasi untuk semua warga dunia dalam membantu sesama atas dasar nilai-nilai kemanusiaan.
Melansir laman resmi The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) gagasan untuk Hari Palang Merah dan Bulan Sabit Merah Sedunia awalnya muncul setelah Perang Dunia Pertama. Sebuah aksi tahunan yang dapat dilakukan di seluruh dunia dan akan menjadi kontribusi besar bagi perdamaian dibahas pada Konferensi Internasional ke-14 dari Palang Merah.

Maka kemudian tanggal 8 Mei akhirnya dipilih karena merupakan hari kelahiran pendiri Komite Palang Merah Internasional, Henry Dunant. Hari Palang Merah Internasional pertama kali dirayakan pada tanggal 8 Mei 1948. Nama peringatannya pun berubah seiring waktu.
Hingga tahun 1948 digunakan "World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day" atau di Indonesia disebut dengan Hari Palang Merah Internasional.
Hari Palang Merah Internasional ini bertujuan untuk merayakan jaringan sukarelawan Palang Merah dan Bulan Sabit Merah di seluruh dunia. Serta menegaskan kembali komitmen yang tak tergoyahkan untuk kemanusiaan yang setara dan merenungkan prinsip-prinsip dasar Palang Merah.
